CATS program(TM) - The Kentucky
County Attorney Traffic Safety Program
It’s a program approved by the KY State Legislature allowing County Attorneys to develop programs to improve traffic safety in their communities.
CATS allows drivers who receive traffic citations to take a traffic safety education course instead of paying their citations.
When a driver pays for a citation, they are effectively pleading guilty to the charge, and points are assessed on their driving record. When a driver accumulates too many points, they risk having their license suspended. Any points on your license can be grounds for your insurance company to raise your auto insurance rates.
When a you successfully complete the CATS Program(TM), the County Attorney can dismiss your citation without any points being added to your record. So you won't face license suspension, and your insurance rates will not be increased for added risk

For about the same cost as paying a traffic citation, the one hour video-based Advent CATS driver safety course allows you to learn important defensive driving techniques from the comfort of your own home using just about any device with an internet connection. The fees you pay to participate in the program are shared among prosecutors, courts, law enforcement, and other important State highway safety agencies and programs.

If you received a LETTER from your County Attorney with your username and password, you've already been approved to take the course. Click here to get started
If you received an invitation to apply from your County Attorney, you've been invited to apply for the program. Provide the information requested, and your County Attorney will review your case and give you approval to take the course, typically within three business days of your application. Click here to apply.
Remember, you must complete the course by your due date so that your charges can be dismissed in time. If you've already paid your citation, or if you have a commercial drivers license (or CDL), you are not eligible to take the course.
